Prayers answered!!!

March 12, 2010

We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.  Jean has been hired on with what we think is a very good company.  The owner seems like a pretty straight-shooting guy, and values honesty.  He asked Jean for a commitment of a few years because he doesn’t want to invest in training only for the guy to leave.  Jean was honest, said that he’s been stabbed in the back a few times lately, and this guy said he knows what it’s like, and will never do that.  I pray that everything turns out as well as we hope it will.

Jean starts next week, and I’ll keep you posted as to what he’s doing and how it goes.

Looking Again…

March 8, 2010

Please offer up a few prayers for us.  Jean is once again looking for work.  It’s a rough market right now in Kelowna, as it is everywhere.  He just wasn’t what they were looking for I guess.  However, we are not discouraged.  We know that there is a job out there meant for Jean, he just hasn’t found it yet.  We’re strong, we’re happy with our little family, we love our home, and we love the weather lately (the sunshine has brightened our hearts, that’s for sure).  We will keep you posted as soon as something comes our way – Jean already has a few leads, and will be out pounding the pavement first thing tomorrow morning.  I would say “Wish us luck” – but I know that luck has nothing to do with it.  Thanks for the prayers!!!

We’re back!!!

March 2, 2010

Sorry for disappearing on everyone – I had midterms the past two weeks, and the week before that was Reading Break (basically, the university gives us a break, but then also gives us midterms the following week, so it’s not a break at all!).  I will now attempt to update you on our lives, non-exciting as they are ;)

Jean has been working at his new job for almost a month, and he’s loving it!  The work varies, but isn’t super hard – he doesn’t come home exhausted OR bored!  He also really enjoys the people he works with.  The hours are always the same, 9-5 Mon to Fri, and since his job is on the way to my school we’ve been able to go back to using one car instead of two!  Our finances are also easing – we’re finally starting to get caught up on bills, that’s such a great feeling!

School is… well, to be honest it’s challenging this term!  I have four classes, and only two of them are going well.  The other are two are pushing my limits which arguably is a good thing I guess.  French and Political Philosophies & Ideologies have become my nemeses!!!  I enjoy both classes, but they are incredibly hard for me to process.  I now identify with my Chinese students who could read English but made stupid mistakes (or so I thought) while writing English!  LOL I do the same in French!  I’m still waiting to hear whether or not I’ve been selected to go to Quebec this summer, and I really hope and pray that I am because the experience will help my French skills immensely!!!

Other then that, life is routine.  Work, school, and TV (our only entertainment lately).  We’re really hoping to get gym passes this month, then we’ll be able to work out and swim too!  Jaxon is doing really well, and totally brightens our days.  You have no idea how many times we just sit there and giggle at him, he’s the funniest little dog and has the brightest personality!  I wish you could all spend some time with him, he’d make you smile and laugh too!  Every morning he wakes up so cheerful and full of energy, and his little furry face just makes me smile first thing in the morning :)

One side note – I had the opportunity of spending this past weekend in Vancouver, and spent some time in downtown Vancouver watching hockey and taking in the crowds.  I had a blast, and will soon be posting pictures to our Flickr account (there is a link to it on the right hand side of our blog).

Also a reminder – I’m not going to be sending out emails to everyone to let you know that I’ve posted something, so I encourage you to subscribe to our blog.  Your email is not used for anything other then delivering our posted blog to your email inbox.  This way you won’t feel out of the loop :)

Thanks to everyone who is keeping in touch with us, who prays for us on a regular basis, and offers encouragement via phone, email, Facebook or in person – you are all appreciated more then you know!  Thank you so much for being a part of our lives!!!

Finally – a week off!

February 12, 2010

It’s Reading Break – appropriately named because I won’t have time to do anything else!  LOL but I don’t mind too much, it’ll be nice to have some time to relax, and study outside of a perfect schedule.  I have all of next week off, then once I return to school I have 4 exams in a row – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.   It’s midterm time (I had one this morning), and everyone’s stress levels are through the roof.  I just keep telling myself that these are small tests in the grand scheme of things, so I don’t stress out too much about them…

Jean is doing really well at his new job!  He has worked there a week now, and has loved it!  The guys he works with are great (one of them is actually in a class of mine!), and they are telling him that he is a great worker, that they trust him to do stuff on his own already.  One guy even told him that he’s already at the level of work that others have been after one year of working there!!!  I’m super proud of him!!!  Jean’s duties are simple – he drives a forklift around, backs up trucks, mixes pails of building materials, and delivers the odd thing.  It’s always varied, and he always works 9-5.  Because of this, and his job being on the way to my school, we’re able to once again share a vehicle!  This has saved us so much money – so on top of his getting a good job, we could save money!  It’s been a good week, and we’re incredibly thankful for answered prayers :)

This weekend my parents are taking us out to dinner with them and my brother and his girlfriend.  It should be fun!  We’re going to Joey’s – they have a celiac menu for my mom, and delicious food!

Also, Jean’s membership is being transferred to Kelowna Church officially this weekend, he’s been looking forward to that.  Finally, our memberships are in the same place.  We’re still not sure what we’re doing when it comes to a church family – we really want to be part of a church family that is supportive and inclusive, so please keep us in your prayers.

In two weeks I’m taking a short trip to Vancouver to celebrate my sisters 19th birthday!  It should be a fun weekend, and thankfully I’ll miss most of the Olympic hubbub.

Keep in touch!!!

Jean did it!!!

February 8, 2010

So… after an exact week of stress (though it wasn’t as bad as it has been before), Jean has a new job!!!  We got a tip from a friend, Jean dropped his resume off at this place and got a call for an interview the same day!  He had his interview on Friday, and after a few hours of waiting got the call – HE GOT HIRED!!!  The boss said Jean sounded intelligent, and he likes the fact that he’s a family guy who wants some stability.  He starts tomorrow morning, bright and early.  The wage is the same as the job he just left (a good wage for Kelowna!!!) and we’re happy.  I’m so proud of Jean, he was pounding the pavement for hours every day last week – me feeding him phone numbers and addresses by Blackberry Messenger (while I was in class… LOL), and him seeking out each and every one.  I am blessed with the most amazing man ever!!!

I think the difference this time – we trusted in God (most of the time – we had our moments) to provide Jean with another job.  That made it a lot easier, knowing that we were taken care of.  Also, we had the prayers of our family and friends, and for that – WE THANK YOU!!!  It gave us a lot of strength to know that everyone was behind us.

So, as of tomorrow, we’re back to routine – Jean goes off to work, and I go off to school and work.

Nothing much else is new, thus the lack of recent blogging.  I promise to write soon and let you know how things are going… till then, Salut!

And it’s over!

February 1, 2010

Nothing drastic, just the weekend.  And it was a good one – for the most part.  Unfortunately, Jean got laid off on Friday afternoon, so he must resume looking for work on Monday morning (please keep him in your prayers!).  But we took the news well, all things considered!  Finding steady, stable work in this town is not easy… at least now he just has to find something until his school starts – did we tell you that Jean’s seriously considering going back to school?  He wants to take the AME program (Aircraft Maintenance Engineering) beginning in September.  He’d be going to school full time for 17 months, then working in the field for two and a half years, after which he’ll be certified!  It’s something that he can use anywhere in the world, and he’ll graduate before I do!  LOL  I’m so super excited for him, it’s an amazing opportunity.

As for me, I’m back to school tomorrow morning.  Sometimes it’s a bit of a drag, I feel like I’m back in high school – only worrying about exams and papers and homework, but I keep telling myself that it’ll be worth it when it’s all over.  And if I get selected for that program in Quebec this summer, I’m going to be SO excited!!!  What a privilege to study French in Quebec!!!

This weekend was a relaxing one – yesterday we spent time with friends at CRASH (the small group that we meet with on Saturday afternoons) and then spent the evening with a couple that we met last summer.  We had a blast as usual, playing some game or other – last night it was “Who, What, Where”, have you ever played that game?  It’s so much fun – you have to describe the different things on the card, and the more things you describe, the more spaces you move.  We played it twice!  LOL

Today  we spent at Mom and Dad’s, we had dinner there and took some long-overdue family pictures.  They turned out pretty good actually – as soon as I get them from Mom I’ll post them on Flickr for you all to see :)   We also played games after (it was the first time I’ve played Uno in years!!!) .  Tonight Jean and I used our free credit on Shaw-on-Demand to rent Julie and Julie – at was a really sweet movie, and it totally made us want to cook!  Unfortunately, our cupboards are a little on the empty side until Wednesday, and it’s 9:30 at night!  Haha not a convenient time to cook!

So tomorrow is Monday, and it’s back to reality.  Papers due, want ads to comb through, and a puppy to walk.  Might I see you here again soon?

Not Replaced, Improved!

January 25, 2010

It is a lot of work to keep up our website, and I have been told that most people only go to our website for our blog – so we decided not to renew our website (which costs money) and maintain an independent blog instead.  This is it!  This is the place that you will find the daily happenings in our lives.

One feature that we love about this blog site is that you can subscribe!  Once you enter your email address (to the right of this post), any new blog posts from us will come straight to your email inbox!  Isn’t that convenient?

Also, our photos will still be on Flickr, and we have posted a link (also to the right of this post) that you can click on to get there.

It means so much that you have all taken such a sincere interest in our lives, and we send out a big THANK YOU for staying in touch :)
